A Compelling Early Peek to the 2024 BMW X5 M50i Upgrades
In late 2021, the Germany luxury automaker BMW unveiled a refreshed type of X5. Unfortunately, it apparently produced exclusively for the Chinese market, where a long-wheelbase car version is outstandingly popular. However, worry not, as the high-performing X5 M was recently spotted for a road testing in winter, then an upgrade for other X5 variants including for the M50i is also bound to happen. Read below of what to expect from the upcoming 2024 BMW X5 M50i.
Spotted Design Upgrades from Spied Photos
Clarifying to your family members, friends, or neighbor that the X5 M50i is not a dedicated M performance model can be quite challenging. It half leans into the category as it is supported by a more powerful engine compared to the standard V8 found in the base trim xDrive50i, but it isn’t the most fierce, top-ranging vehicle either. Still, apart from its more potent V8 powertrain, it also packs satisfyingly luxurious interior, which is also predicted to define the 2024 BMW X5 M50i as well.
Predictably, the new BMW X5 as a whole will receive an upgraded styling cue, following the revamp given to the X3 and X4. As a result, vertical intakes will possibly replace the rectangular-ish lower side intakes, the primary grille will be refined to appear sharper with slimmer upturned angle at every corner, and the headlights will be adjusted significantly to be narrower. From the side profile, the 2024 BMW X5 M50i and other X5 variants won’t gain any major change. Looking from the rear side, no significant change is expected, except for the new taillights’ graphics.
Uncovering upgrades from the outer part is rather challenging, but getting into the interior section immediately confirms that it’s indeed an upgraded model. The 2024 X5 earns the BMW iDrive 8 infotainment software programs with upgraded graphics and dual screens.
2024 BMW X5 Plausible Powertrain
The BMW X5 model indeed only comes in a 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 powertrain option, but it is retuned in several ways so that there are a total of three alternatives that support its variants. Regardless of the version, they are all paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 BMW X5 M50i as the mid-range performance variant is expected to retain its current powertrain. The 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine type that powers this trim puts out up to 523 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque. These numbers place the M50i a bit beyond the entry-level trim xDrive50i, but still lesser than the high-performing X5 M version, which Competition trim can produce up to 617 HP.
The M50i is essentially based on M Sport model. However, instead of an air suspension, it is given adaptive dampers and steel springs. Moreover, it is capable to promote traction when turning in corners by featuring a bespoke limited-slip differential. Additionally, it is also equipped with larger wheels, upgraded audio setup, and a sport exhaust system all of which are predicted to arrive again in the 2024 BMW X5 M50i.
The current M50i can achieve 0-60 mph acceleration in merely 3.9 seconds. It is also capable of going at 112 mph 1/4-mile pass in only 12.4 seconds, which is truly impressive for a vehicle that weighs 5336 lbs. These figures make the M50i only slightly slower than the highest-performing X5 M version.
Possible Arrival Date and Price Estimation
The upgraded X5 M variant that supposedly releases earlier than the other X5 variants is predictably enter production in April 2023 and arrive in the United States as a 2024 model. Therefore, it is safe to assume the others trims, including the M50i will follow suit.
Bumped price of the 2024 BMW X5 M50i is almost certain, although no details have been dropped yet at this point. For a reference, the current M50i price starts at $85,400 excluding $995 destination fee that applies to each X5 variant.
